Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced on June 2 that Ankara is in talks with Saudi Arabia and several regional countries to revive a transport corridor linking Turkey to the Gulf through Syria and Jordan, according to Syrian outlet Enab Baladi.

The aim is to create an alternative to maritime routes, which have become more costly and increasingly exposed to regional instability.

Turkey sees the project as a strategic trade and energy axis that could accelerate the movement of goods and strengthen economic integration between the Gulf and European markets.

The initiative also reflects renewed cooperation with Damascus, particularly around the modernization of Syria’s railway network and the development of a broader regional logistics corridor.

In April, Syria, Jordan and Turkey signed a memorandum of understanding to coordinate transport infrastructure, simplify border procedures and expand rail and land connectivity. The project highlights Syria’s gradual return to regional connectivity networks after more than a decade of conflict and isolation.
