Kuwait’s judiciary has sentenced four individuals to three years in prison in cases linked to support for Iran and Hezbollah, local outlet Al-Anbaa reported on Friday, May 1.

Fifty other defendants were spared punishment, while eight were acquitted.

The charges notably relate to the dissemination of content deemed favorable to these actors, amid heightened regional tensions.

Kuwait itself was targeted by drone and missile strikes in March and April, notably hitting energy infrastructure and strategic facilities.

An ally of the United States and opposed to Iranian influence, the country is tightening its control over speech perceived as likely to fuel internal divisions.
