Kuwait’s judiciary has upheld on appeal the death sentences handed to three Iranian nationals accused of attempting to smuggle more than 120 kg of cannabis and 10,000 psychotropic pills, local outlet Al-Anbaa reported on Thursday, April 30.

The suspects were arrested at sea near Kobar Island by coast guards following an operation coordinated with anti-narcotics authorities.

According to Al-Anbaa, they confessed to the charges, stating they were to be paid for delivering the shipment.

Kuwait enforces strict anti-drug laws, with penalties that can extend to capital punishment for large-scale trafficking.
