Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris in Ankara on Wednesday for talks focused on reconstruction and bilateral investment, according to Sudan Tribune.
Both countries aim to deepen cooperation in agriculture, energy, mining, infrastructure, transport, and port development as Sudan seeks to rebuild its economy after years of conflict.
Ankara also offered expertise in renewable energy, digital transformation, and administrative reform, while a joint Turkish-Sudanese business forum is expected soon, with several agreements likely to be signed this week.
Turkey already maintains a strategic presence on Sudan’s Suakin Island in the Red Sea, following a 2017 agreement with former President Omar al-Bashir to restore and develop the historic Ottoman-era port.
Sudan has been engulfed in a civil war since April 2023, pitting the army against paramilitary forces. Each side controls distinct territories and receives backing from foreign countries.
