Ten civilians, including eight children, were killed in a drone strike on two vehicles in western Sudan, where the army and the Rapid Support Forces are fighting, local media outlet Sudan Tribune reported on Sunday, May 31.
The attack took place on a road in West Kordofan, between Darfur and central Sudan, a strategic area that has become one of the conflict’s most contested fronts.
The National Umma Party, one of Sudan’s main civilian political parties, accused the army of targeting the two vehicles with a drone and denounced an attack on non-combatants.
Drones are playing an increasingly prominent role in Sudan’s war, fuelled by external backing and arms deliveries to both sides.
Sudan Tribune noted that, according to the UN Human Rights Office, drone strikes killed at least 880 civilians between January and April 2026, accounting for more than 80% of civilian deaths in the conflict over that period.
