In early 2026, Morocco became Spain’s fourth-largest supplier of olive oil, exporting nearly 3,000 tonnes in January–February, compared with just 55 tonnes a year earlier, according to Al Massae.
After establishing itself in markets for tomatoes, avocados and berries, Morocco is now expanding into one of Spain’s most strategic agricultural sectors: olive oil.
Spanish data show Morocco’s share of imports rising from around 2% to nearly 7.5% in a single season, placing it behind Tunisia, Portugal and Italy.
The surge is driven by a sharp increase in Moroccan production, expected to reach around 200,000 tonnes in the 2025–2026 season, more than double the previous year.
In Spain, some producers are already warning of intensifying competition, citing Morocco’s lower production costs and favourable trade terms with the European Union.
