UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep concern on June 8 over Israel’s decision to close key crossing points into Gaza, effectively blocking the entry of humanitarian and commercial supplies, according to local media outlet Al-Qods.

Kerem Shalom, the only partially operational freight crossing in recent weeks, as well as Rafah have been shut, preventing any inflow of essential goods from outside the enclave.

Guterres stressed that Gaza’s population is entirely dependent on a steady flow of humanitarian aid, urging the immediate and unimpeded resumption of humanitarian movements in line with international law.

The UN warns that the conflict has destroyed around 90% of essential infrastructure in the enclave and triggered massive population displacement.

It also estimates reconstruction costs at nearly $70 billion, while the fragile ceasefire remains under strain, with Israeli raids reportedly causing over 1,000 deaths in Gaza since October 2025.
